Manoel Coelho

He was born in 1940, Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina, graduated in Architecture and Urbanism, School of Architecture, Federal University of Parana, in 1967, where he became Professor and Coordinator of the Architecture Course for many years. He coordinated the insertion of Graphic and Industrial Design Course at the same University in 1975.

Since 1971, he has participated of the Urban Planning of the City of Curitiba process with projects of Urban Spaces and Urban Furniture.

Since 1973, the architect coordinates the area of Physical Planning at the Catholic University of Parana, where he has developed projects of all campus facilities in Curitiba, Londrina, Maringá, Toledo and São José dos Pinhais and controls a Corporate Identity Program which inserts and protects the brand and image of PUCPR.

He was president of the Institute of Architects of Brazil, Department of Paraná, and worked at the Municipal Urban Development Office in Curitiba from 1989 to 1990.

From 1975 to 1980 he coordinated a project of Urban Development for the City of Criciúma, state of Santa Catarina, including Corporate Identity Design, Urban Furniture, Circulation System, City Hall, Cultural and Sports Centre.

From 1999 he has designed the plant of UNIVERSITY POSITIVO, in an area of 440,000.00 m2, taking account of 12,000 students and 120.000 m2 of constructed area so far.

Over the past 40 years Manoel Coelho received many awards, among which the Prize for the works collection on the XV Brazilian Congress of Architects Oscar Niemeyer, for signage projects and urban furniture in Curitiba at the 3.ª International Biennial of Architecture in São Paulo and Excellence Award in 2.ª Brazilian Biennial of Design. He was honored in the 5.ª International Biennial of Architecture and Design in São Paulo with a Special Room.

His works are registered in several national and international publications.

He pronounced lectures in Brazil and abroad, especially:

• Lecture in the I Congresso Nacional de Educación Ambiental, organized by University Marcelino Champagnat in Lima, Peru.

He has managed the MCA Architecture&Design where develops an integrated work including architecture, urbanism and design.
