Oren Beit-Arie

has more than 20 years experience in scholarly information technologies, and is actively involved in the international community of this sector. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences and other industry events around the world. Oren co-authored the OpenURL specification together with researchers from Ghent University (Belgium), and subsequently from the Los Alamos National Laboratory (United States). He went on to be one of the primary developers of the NISO OpenURL standard (Z39.88 - 2004). He is a current member of the NISO Architecture Committee, Internet2/MACE Shibboleth, an invited expert for Europeana Thematic Network and a member of the OpenURL Maintenance Agency Advisory Committee.

Oren is the Chief Strategy Officer of the Ex Libris Group and is responsible for strategy and overall research activities of the company. In his current role, he has most recently led the vision and creation of Primo (a user-centered discovery and delivery solution for all library and institutional content), bX (a scholarly articles recommender service and usage analysis) and of URM (Unified Resource Management framework – a next generation framework for unified management of library resources.

Oren holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science and an M.A. in Theoretical Linguistics from Tel Aviv University.
